Our Principles
These are the ideas behind every article on WorkOnFitness. They shape what we write and what we leave out.
Start where you are
Training works best a little above what you can already do. Every guide starts from your current level, with an easier version for a first step and a harder one for when you are ready. We do not tell a beginner to start with a fixed amount that suits someone else. Starting from zero explains how to find your own starting point.
Fitness is what your body can do
We treat fitness as capacity: strength, stamina, balance, mobility and the ability to recover. These carry into daily life, sport and later years. We do not frame training around looks. Fitness as spare capacity sets out this view.
Everyone has their own reason
People train for a sport, for their health, to come back from a setback, to keep up with family or for the enjoyment of it. We do not assume one motivation fits all. We give clear information so each reader can work toward their own goal.
Clear words, with the precise term beside them
We write in plain language and give the precise term next to the everyday word. A beginner should never be stopped by jargon, and an experienced reader should never be talked down to.
Honest claims
We do not promise results by a date, exact gains or shortcuts. Where the evidence is limited or mixed, we say so. Where an exercise is not the right choice for someone, we say that too.
No guilt and no fear
Missing a session is not failure, and rest is part of training. We do not use guilt, fear or shame to push anyone. Is rest part of training? and staying consistent explain why.
Your choice
We explain options and let you decide. The guides show what each version changes so you can pick what fits your body, your goals and the time you have.
Safety stays in view
The guides name the mistakes that lead to strain and say when to stop. Pain or normal discomfort? explains the difference. For an injury or a health condition, we point you to a doctor or physical therapist.
Fairness and care when training together
Partner workouts are written so each person knows their role, either partner can stop at any time and the effort is set so both stay safe.
