Slow Squat Kiss Hold
Quick Intro
Slow Squat Kiss Hold takes the bodyweight squat, a lower body exercise performed by bending the knees and hips to lower the body and standing back up. Partners stand facing each other close enough that rising to standing brings their faces together without leaning, then slow their squat pace down so the kiss at the top of each rep can be held for a full breath before separating and dropping back into the next squat.
Bodyweight Squat breaks down the squat’s own full technique.

How to Do It Together
- Face each other close. Stand close enough that rising to standing brings your faces together without either of you leaning forward.
- Squat down slowly together. Descend at a slow, matched pace.
- Rise and hold the kiss. Rise together, and at full standing extension, kiss and hold it for one full breath before separating.
- Drop only after the kiss ends. Begin the next squat only once the kiss has finished, never before.
Inhale on the descent, exhale on the rise, then hold the kiss through one natural breath cycle before the next rep begins.
Why the Kiss Itself Is the Exercise Here
Squat-to-Kiss treats the kiss as a quick moment landing at the top of a normal-paced squat, a brief touch that punctuates reps happening at a regular rhythm. This exercise reverses that relationship entirely. The squat pace exists to serve the kiss, slowed down specifically so the held kiss has room to breathe rather than getting rushed past on the way to the next rep.
That reversal changes what actually matters during a set. A normal rep-peak kiss asks you to notice a brief contact point inside a set that’s mostly about the squat. Here, the squat itself becomes almost secondary, a vehicle for repeatedly arriving at and holding a kiss, with the workout happening almost incidentally around it. Counting reps stops being the point. The length and presence of each held kiss is.
Because of that shift, the rep count matters less here than it does in most rep-based exercises. Keeping sets short, six to eight reps, protects the pace from drifting back toward something faster and more rep-focused as fatigue builds. A longer set under real fatigue tends to pull the kiss shorter without either partner noticing it happening, which quietly defeats the entire point of this particular version.
If You’re at Different Fitness Levels
Both partners can use a chair or wall for support in place of a standard squat, as in the Chair Squat, with the kiss-hold at the top staying exactly the same length regardless of the support used. For a genuine strength gap, the stronger partner performs a standard squat while the weaker partner uses the chair-assisted version, paced so both of you arrive at standing together for the kiss.
Safety and Consent
Standard squat form cautions apply. If either of you wobbles leaning in, end the kiss early and reset, because the kiss should never cost you stability.
Every connection moment in these exercises is something either partner can skip or scale back at any point, including this one, no explanation needed. The regular rep-peak version with a brief kiss is there for a day when a held kiss and a slower pace are more than you want.
FAQ
How does this compare with the regular rep-peak kiss exercise? Squat-to-Kiss lands a brief kiss inside a normal-paced set. This exercise slows the whole squat down specifically so the kiss can be held for a full breath instead of landing as a quick touch.
Why does the rep count matter less here? Because the squat is mostly serving the kiss rather than the other way around, counting reps isn’t really the point. The length and presence of the kiss is.
Why keep sets to just six or eight reps? A longer set under fatigue tends to shorten the kiss without either partner noticing, which undoes the slower, held pace this exercise is actually built around.
What if one of us keeps leaning forward to reach the kiss? Standing closer together at the start, close enough that standing fully upright naturally brings your faces together, usually solves this without either partner needing to lean.
Can we use the chair-assisted version even without a strength gap? Yes. It works the same way for both partners if that’s simply the more comfortable option that day.
How should we breathe through each rep? Inhale on the way down and exhale on the way up, then hold the kiss through one natural breath cycle before dropping into the next squat. End the kiss early if either of you loses balance leaning in.
Can we do a faster version with just a brief kiss instead? Yes. Squat-to-Kiss uses the regular rep-peak pace with a quick kiss in place of a slow, held one.
