Slow Kiss Set Closer
Quick Intro
Slow Kiss Set Closer follows the push-up, lowering the body from a straight-arm plank and pressing back up. You each complete your own set, then turn to face each other and close it out with a slow, held kiss for a few seconds, which is longer than a quick high-five or a brief hug, before taking the planned rest.
Push-up breaks down the full technique, the muscles worked and every way to vary the movement.
What You’ll Need
No equipment.
How to Do It Together
- Finish your own set. Each partner completes their agreed push-up set at their own pace.
- Step close together. Turn to face each other once the last rep is done.
- Kiss slowly. Hold it for a few seconds before separating.
- Take the planned rest. Start your normal rest period before the next set.
Let breath settle naturally. Don’t rush out of the kiss to catch breath, breathe through it instead.
Why a Kiss Changes the Pace of the Moment
Push-Up Set Embrace already closes a push-up set with a brief hug, two or three seconds, timed to lead cleanly into rest. This exercise chooses something slower on purpose. A held kiss can’t be rushed the way a quick embrace can, which forces the whole closing moment to slow down right at the point where a lot of couples would otherwise jump straight to catching their breath or checking the clock on rest time.
That slower pace is most of what this version is actually for. The temptation right after a hard set is to move fast, grab a quick gesture of acknowledgment, and get on with resting. A kiss that’s meant to be held for a few seconds doesn’t allow for that. It asks both partners to stay present in the moment a beat longer than a high-five or a fast hug would, closing out the effort with something that takes its own time to actually land.
Attaching this to the end of every set, and not only at the end of a whole session, also matters. A single slow kiss at the very end of a workout is a nice closing gesture, but a set-by-set version turns the whole session into something with this kind of pause built in repeatedly, so the closeness isn’t saved up for one moment once the real training is already finished.
If You’re at Different Fitness Levels
No scaling is needed for this ritual itself. Each partner works their own set, standard push-up or an easier variant, at their own pace, and the kiss happens once both sets are actually done. There’s no fixed set structure required, since the ritual simply attaches to whatever set the couple just finished, however many reps that set actually was for either of you.
Safety and Consent
None specific, beyond the usual push-up form cautions covered in Push-up.
Every connection moment in these exercises is something either partner can skip or scale back at any point, including this one, no explanation needed. A quick high-five or nothing at all can close the set if a slow kiss isn’t what you want.
FAQ
How does this compare with Push-Up Set Embrace? Push-Up Set Embrace closes with a brief two or three second hug, timed to move quickly into rest. This one closes with a slower, held kiss that asks both partners to stay in the moment a little longer before resting.
Why does the length of the kiss actually matter here? A quick gesture can be done in passing, almost on autopilot. A held kiss can’t be rushed the same way, which is what makes this version feel slower and more deliberate than a high-five or a fast hug would.
Do both partners need to finish their sets at the same time? No. Each partner works at their own pace, and the kiss happens once both sets are actually finished, however long each one takes.
Can this be used after any exercise, or only push-ups? It’s written using push-ups as the example, but this ritual pairs naturally with whatever set a couple just finished, not only this specific movement.
What if one of us would rather have a quick gesture instead of a slow kiss? That’s a completely reasonable preference. A high-five or Push-Up Set Embrace’s brief hug both work as lighter alternatives to this one.
How should we breathe through the kiss? Let the breath settle naturally and breathe through the kiss. Don’t rush out of it to catch your breath, since the slow pace is what lets the kiss work as the transition into rest.
Can we just do the push-ups without any closing ritual? Yes. Push-up on its own works fine with no ritual attached.
